Jacqueline’s piece of mind

spring/fall in January?

Waking up in the  morning has been a lot easier this winter for me and many of my other friends. It has been because the weather has just been pretty nice out for the most part. We have been avoiding cleaning off our cars or the harsh winter cold a lot less often this season. We have only had maybe two decent sized snow storms that hit the capital region and left us with scrapers and shovels unused.

For many, this lack of snow is more of a blessing than anything else. Not having to worry about alternate side parking or black ice. Instead they have just had to deal with the colds they’ve developed from the constant changing from frigid cold to then almost spring like weather.

As mentioned in the Times Union many annual events have had to adapt to the unseasonably warm weather. Such as in the Grafton Lakes Winter Festival, which usual stars horses pulling sleighs across the fresh powdery snow, now will be attached to carriages pulled across pavement. It kind of takes away from the trademark winter ideals for the upstate region. So in the end I wonder if it is a fluke of warmth or is it rather a change that will consistently chage?

  1. Jacqueline,

While your post is correct, it lacks definition.

“maybe two decent sized snow storms”
    “many annual events”
    “pretty nice out”

Avoid generalizations. Stay away from words like some, many, maybe, often, several, etc. Give the reader a few details, like what’s Albany’s normal snowfall vs. this year’s snowfall. Or normal average temperature for January vs. this year’s. Those numbers would support your opinion.

You wrote specificially about the Grafton Lakes Winter Festival, and that was the best part of what you wrote.

Remember to include links to supporting online sources, such as the Times Union (or the Weather Channel or National Weather Service).
